As we tee off another Financial Year at our club, I want to extend a warm welcome to all our members and friends to our new bi-monthly newsletter.

FY24/25 has seen another busy year for our club, with memberships and sponsorships both up, we thank you for your valued ongoing support.  Also a big thank you to our staff and contractors who continually go above and beyond to enhance the member experience. Your board have been particularly busy with a focus on our course and opportunities for complimentary alternative income.  As we wrap up the books for another FY, we look forward to sharing our results with members at the AGM which has been scheduled for Monday, October 20.

Our office team have been particularly busy over the past few months as we transition to a new accounting system, Xero which is now in place for the new FY.  This cloud-based accounting system is widely used by businesses, integrates seamlessly with our golf management system (MiClub), and will help streamline our operations while enhancing the overall experience for our members.

Leo Delahunty and Gary Howden have been particularly busy behind the scenes working on the precinct plan for our club.  We have recently been successful obtaining a $48,000 ‘Tiny Towns’ grant from the state government which is to be used for a feasibility study and planning for a mini-golf project. We look forward to a more detailed member update in late Spring as more details come to hand.

The developers of the proposed Horsham Hotel adjacent to the Horsham Golf Club submitted their planning application to state government in May.  The developers, ATG, have been in constant communication with our board and we believe that an investment like this will be beneficial to the region by having a facility that is enticing for golfing enthusiasts as well as becoming a destination for conferences and events.

We hope you enjoy the newsletter, you’ll find details about our valued sponsors, updates from the pro shop, reminders about upcoming membership payments, news about new staff joining the team, and a well-deserved acknowledgement of our dedicated volunteers. There is plenty happening as we continue to work towards our vision of being ‘One of Country Australia’s great golfing experiences.’

If you have anything to add or highlight for upcoming newsletters, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Your contributions help make our club vibrant and welcoming for all.

Go play, have fun, enjoy our club.

Funding & Grant Updates

We’re excited to share some fantastic news about recent funding support that will help us continue improving both our course and programs at Horsham Golf Club:

  • ILUKA Resources – ILUKA Lends a Hand Program:
We’ve received $4,450 to support our Pathways to Play junior development initiative. These funds will be used to purchase new golf clubs for clinics, helping introduce more young players to the game in an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Horsham Sports & Community Club (HSCC):
A generous contribution of $2,000 has been provided by HSCC to assist with the purchase of new scarifier heads for our greens team — an important upgrade for maintaining course quality.
  • CDS WestVic Container Deposit Scheme:
Thanks to the incredible support from our members and volunteers, we’ve raised $6,000 through the recycling of bottles and cans. These funds will also go directly toward the scarifier heads purchase. A massive thank you to everyone who donated their containers and to our dedicated volunteers who collected and deposited them all – this wouldn’t have been possible without you!

Sahara

As part of our ongoing course improvement plan, recent works have been completed on Hole 8, known more commonly as the Sahara. The trees and shrubs to the right of the bunker have been removed, and the bunker itself has been reshaped.

These changes were made to improve the visibility of the hole, enhance ease of access in and out of the bunker, and make overall hole playability a little easier — particularly by reducing the likelihood of losing tee shots in dense shrubbery. We’re confident these improvements will lead to a better playing experience for all members and guests.
